Essentially, what you want is to put an affiliate link (or links) somewhere out there on the World Wide Web. Also, you want to ensure that people within the market that you’re targeting are going to be seeing that link, and potentially clicking on it. After all, there’s not much point in putting a link for a cat food product on a dog enthusiast’s website seeing as most of the people who browse through that type of website aren’t going to be interested.

All said and done, you have various options. Some people opt for PPC (Pay-Per-Click) Advertising seeing as they won’t need to actually own or manage a website that way. While this is true, you should also bear in mind that PPC advertising is notoriously difficult for beginners, and it also costs money so you’d best be prepared for a steep learning curve and a nominal investment.

Apart from that, you have other options too though. You could set up a website, or even take advantage of blogs, or ‘social’ sites such as Squidoo Lenses and Hubpages. Really, the ball is in your court. So long as you set up some way for your affiliate link to garner attention, and then promote it as much as you can, you should find that you have no problems.

Likewise, selling a product is equally involved, and you’ll need to find some way to position your product in such a way that it can be prominently seen by people within the market that you’re targeting. This is easier said than done, but if you can master one or more of the techniques to do so (i.e. website promotion, article marketing, PPC advertising, etc), you should be well off!

With affiliate products, you can see if there is or isn’t a demand by looking at how well a certain product is selling. As such, you don’t need to do tedious research into what a certain market may or may not like.

3. No inventory required

Seeing as all you’re doing is forwarding customers to the ‘real’ seller, the fact of the matter is that you’re not going to need to keep an inventory, or ‘stock’ of any product at all. All in all, this means that there’ll be a whole lot less hassle.

Each of these three advantages is a compelling reason in its own right to pick affiliate marketing over creating your own products. Still, the ultimate decision remains yours, and it inevitably boils down to what you prefer. Despite its convenience, affiliate marketing is tremendously powerful, so don’t discount it outright!

When it comes to affiliate marketing, the question at hand is really the amount of sales that you’re able to make. Most affiliate products pay out about $20 per sale, and so if you can make 25 sales per week, you’re going to be making about 100 sales per month, which is $2,000 or thereabouts. Generally speaking, this is what many people figure initially.

While 100 sale per month sounds like a resonable estimate, the truth is that there are many ways that you can make more, with less sales. Sure, the commission for an eBook may be something small like $20 for a $30 product, but what about a $100 product. That $100 product might pay out $70 in commission, so imagine what a $1,000 product might pay…

All said and done, there are no hard and fast rules for any of this.

Another situation worth considering is residual income. If you’re able to make 100 sales per month, and each of those sales pays you $20 per month, that means that you’re setting yourself up for a $2,000 per month income even if you stop right after the first month. If you don’t stop, well, that means that you could make another 100 sales in the next month, which sets you up for a $4,000 per month income.

As you should now quite easily see, the potential earnings that you stand to make via affiliate marketing can vary greatly, and it all depends on the type of product you choose, as well as how well you’re able to market it.
