A Blog is traditionally a website where pre-surfer or a blogger “logs” all pages he/she finds interesting.

In other words, it is a Web page that contains brief, chronologically (like a diary) arranged items of information. Typically updated daily, blogs often reflect the personality of the blog author.

A blog is often a mixture of what is happening on a particular website and what is happening on the Web, a kind of hybrid diary/guide site, although there are as many unique types of blogs as there are people. Blogs can be used to introduce products to potential customers.

People maintained blogs long before the term was coined, but the trend gained momentum with the introduction of automated published systems. Thousands of people use services such as Blogger to simplify and accelerate the publishing process, but I highly recommend to use WordPress.

A blog as a marketing tool:

Blogs offer huge marketing potential. They are highly strategic tools that can strengthen relationships, share knowledge, increase collaboration, and improve branding. Besides, blogs can represent the real voice of the website.

A weblog can take the form of a diary, a news service, a “help center”, a collection of links to other web sites, a series of book reviews or products, reports of activity on a project, the journal of an expedition, and much, much more. Business can use a blog to effectively advertise their products or services.

One of the most interesting ways to use a weblog is by allowing it to function as a discussion forum for customers of your products or services. In this case, the webmaster can give posting rights to other people – visitors and customers, and their posts may or may not be reviewed before they are published to the Web page. Customers, in such a way can post favorable comments about the websites offerings. Some weblogs are set up in such a way that only the owner or the owner and certain other people have posting rights, but anyone else can add comments to the posts.

Weblogs when used with newsletters present immense marketing opportunities:

- Articles with newsletters can be linked to a blog, extending life and creating a massive conversation.

- You can offer a bidirectional forum to customers to get true, personal opinions on your products and services.

- Company experts can start a blog and become industry experts, helping your company edge out competition and, through this interactive forum, draw customers into another exchange of information and thoughts.

The beauty of this interplay is you can layer your blog with editorial controls.

How to create a Weblog?

The majority of weblogs are now created using software or services designed specifically for this purpose. Some of the software is free - and some of the organizations that provide weblog software will also provide free server space to host a weblog so that it is publicly accessible on the Internet.

There are also commercial versions of some of the free software; these commercial versions often provide more features. Some weblog software is available only as commercial software. Alternatively, bloggers can create and maintain their weblog using free software or a free weblog service, but use FTP (File Transfer Protocol) to load the resulting weblog to their own Website.

There are many blogging softwares available easily on the Internet.

Feel free to start your own blog - it is much more easy as it seems.

I wish you all the best and good luck on all your ways

Blogs are an easy way to get your voice out onto the Net.

Custom blogs are a great way to learn about the web technologies and create something from ground up.

With a little bit of tech savvy anyone can create their own custom blog. When choosing blog software or a blog service consider the following:

Is there Support?

Implementing new software will create a lot of questions:

Does the software have a support site and/or a forum?

How large is the user community?

Is the user community helpful?

Is it for Free?

There really is no need to pay a lot of money for either the software or a service. Free doesn’t mean cheap. There is a lot of free quality software available.

Is there Easy Customizatio?

Is the software flexible enough to allow for customization?

Can the colors be changed?

Can style sheets be used?

Offers this software also widgets?

Are there custom plugins available that are developed by the user community?

Is there a robust set of functions that can be employed to accomplish simple tasks?

For example, some software offers one simple function that will produce a long list of links. This saves on the need for a lot of coding.

Is it PHP based?

Don’t worry, it is not that scary. The combination of HTML and PHP can create a highly customized blog. Especially for those who like to dig around in the code, PHP driven software can provide a valuable learning experience.

Are Links possible to insert?

Is the software able to manage links?

Maintaining links manually in HTML is a tedious task. Any software that makes this easier is at a definite advantage.

What about Posts and Pages?

If you are familiar with blogs, you know that an entry in a blog is commonly known as a post. Can regular pages be created from the software as well? This allows for ultimate flexibility.

Is there a Content Management?

Can the software control elements for most or all of the website?

Now, most blog software is not meant to accomplish this task. Search around and see if the blog software can be used to be a basic content management system. Some software is incredibly flexible and can accomplish this task.

I strongly recommend to use Wordpress.
It is said that a new blog is being created every second.

Why not take the time to investigate blog software that will enable a blog to stand out from the crowd?

The online community is fast waking up to the power of blogs.

If you are still not sure what is meaning of the word BLOG: it is an online websites which is like a diary in approach and people are free to publish news, ideas or thoughts. Blogs are very popular as they are simple to use and the best is, in most cases, free (like WordPress, which I strongly recommend to use).

However, professional bloggers will admit that blogging is not as easy as it seems, checking out some posts and putting together a few lines before you eat your breakfast in the morning. You need to have knowledge about the theme you are writing about or you are likely to be torn apart by people who are.

Having a Blog has its own set of advantages which are obvious and some which are not so obvious. The better known advantages are:

Freedom to express:

If you like to build a chain of communication and use that as food for thought and for your existence, a BLOG is the best way to create this outlet. You can express your opinion openly and you just might be surprised by the number of people who would agree with you. Such communication channels also help build momentum for a particular line of thought.

It is Networking at its best:

If you own a blog which has genuine exchange of ideas it can evolve onto a good platform to network and grow your business. It is easier to impress potential customers with a strong and valid point of view rather than a price quote.

An absolut excellent advertising platform:

The sheer size of community generated at a popular blog provides an excellent advertising platform for advertisers. With the hunger for new advertising platforms which is both innovative and cost effective, blogs seems like the next location for the big bucks of advertisers.

Other benefits which are worth mentioning if you own a blog is search engine optimization (short SEO) due to the high volume of content featured here, updating yourself on the latest trend in the marketplace which subsequently helps you identify new opportunities which helps you stay ahead and allows you to be tech-savvy in your social and professional circle.

A blog is short for weblog, which simply means a website that is updated frequently with new information and organized by date, submission and categories.

Blogs are typically a way of journalizing personal and/or business information or what ever you like to write about. It iss like an editorial and a journal all mixed together and available online for constant updates and submissions.

As a beginner, you probably want to know more about blogs and why people are using them.

Blogging started out when the Internet was new and the individuals who were technology savvy found it fun and entertaining to post different things they found on the web for other people to visit and enjoy.

It caught on quickly and a community of blogs developed, allowing people to read other peoples blogs. As time went on, new technology was developed that allowed even the non-techie to create their own blog and join the blog culture.

Blogs are very popular because they relay experiences, interesting thoughts, comments, photos, web links, and plenty of other information that people find interesting around the globe.

Actually, blogging is really popular and many people will send you a link to their blog so you can check and discuss their experiences as travelling, studies, children or any other “thing” you can possibly think of.

What started out as a way to navigate the web and figure out all of the newness that was the Internet of the early ‘90s, turned into a way for people to journalize their experiences, share photos and keep people up to date on their lives. In response to the popularity of blogs, many websites launched software and free sign-ups for blogs so anyone could have their own blog and share their experiences with the entire world.

And so, blogging has continued to grow and weblogs have multiplied into the millions. In fact, there are so many blogs on the web that you can practically become part of your own community with people worldwide, sharing your life, experiences, and thoughts with people you would never have met. Blogs truly are linking people together and they are an amazing phenomenon.

If you are interested in blogging, all you have to do is join one of the many blog websites that will allow you to set up your own account and have your own blog space on the web, giving you a personal space to share photos, experiences, stories, links, and basically anything else that you care to share - if you plan to run a blog, I strongly recommend to use Wordpress.

A lot of people even find that writing blogs are excellent stress relievers and quite cathartic, so you might receive some additional benefits from your blog than just the joy of sharing your personal information.

Have fun, enjoy your life and share your thoughts or experience by blogging with friendly humans around the globe.

If you are someone who uses chat programs such as AIM, ICQ, Yahoo messenger, MSN, or Googletalk and have a lot of online friends, it can be a great way to get people to read your blog and to leave comments on it.

As it is with your signature on your email, you don’t want to just send an instant message to people everytime you update your blog. You also don’t want to simply send a message to someone asking to read your blog.

For someone who has been on your friends list for a while, you can be less formal of course, but you want to be polite when you talk to people who you may have not talked to in a while or someone who is new.

Use your own judgement when you are chatting with people about your blog. If it’s someone that you haven’t talked to in a while, and someone asks you what you have been up to, you can point them to your blog so that they know what is going on with you.

Some blogs, like LiveJournal, have their own messaging program, so that’s also another good way to advertise your blog.

Be certain that you don’t send someone a message though only to advertise your blog. It’s more polite to say something about their blog first, and then tell them about your blog.

If you have a common interest, it’s a good ice breaker and it will give you something to talk about.

There are several ways to monetize a blog.

One of the most commonly used is by selling advertising space, either through text-based advertising or banner ads.

But to do either of these, you will have to look for advertisers who will pay to have their ads placed on your web pages. If you’re unsure on what to do and how to do it, here are tips to help you find blog advertisers to help you generate revenue with your website:

Promote.

Instead of just leaving possible banner ad locations blank, let advertisers know that they are up for grabs. Use ‘Advertise Here’ or ‘Your Ad Here’ texts to indicate their availability.

When advertisers click on these areas, they will arrive on a page where information about buying ad space will be provided. Make sure that there is a webpage that will be used for this purpose specifically. This page may either contain information about your terms or it could be a link that will allow your advertiser to send you an e-mail.

Seek out advertisers actively.

Other than openly promoting your blog for ads, you could also find blog advertisers by targeting them. That way, you get to choose who will place their ads on your blog.

A standard letter of approach to advertisers should contain:

- a brief introduction about yourself

- a short explanation of the purpose of your e-mail

- a short explanation why you’re soliciting their sponsorship or ads

- a concise explanation of the benefits of placing ads on your blog

- details regarding your advertising terms (type of ad placements, industry to which your advertisers belong, maximum number of ads in one webpage, cost, method of payment, etc.)

- important details about your site, such as your subject matter, audience, number of traffic, etc.

Offer sponsorship.

Blog sponsorships are fast becoming a trend online, as the number of businesses utilizing

blogs as an extension of their marketing efforts increases. Through sponsorship, you will be working closely with a company (your advertiser) and promote their products and services through your blogs. Your web pages will also carry that company’s name, brands and logo.

You could also come up with a sponsorship deal wherein specific parts of your blog’s content will be sponsored by the advertiser. This type of blog advertising works well if your site is quite popular already and has a considerable number of visitors.

Do a keyword search.

There are many companies and individuals using Google Adwords who might be interested in an arrangement with you.

Do a simple keyword or key phrase search regarding major topics on your blog. Then seek out sponsored links and find out about the companies that pay for them. Get in touch with these people and offer your blog for their ads.

Take advantage of links.

Blogs and other sites that link with your blog are potential advertisers. If they find your blog interesting enough to link with, they might be open for negotiations regarding advertising.

You might want to send them an e-mail to let them know your blog is available for advertising.

Tap people who use your forums or leave messages.

Another way to find blog advertisers is to offer your ad spots to people who leave comments or messages on your blogs. Seek out people affiliated with a company, group or association. They might be interested to buy ads on your blog.

During your initial foray into web logging, you’ll find that it will take some conscious effort on your part to promote your blog. Of course, you could just simply write feverishly and hope that your blog takes on a life of its own.

But that’s putting your hopes on randomness which might not work in your favor. If the thought of advertising your blog has never crossed your mind, it’s time that you gave it some consideration, especially if you’ve only begun blogging.

Here are ways you can start advertising your blog at little or no cost:

Share information for free.

Don’t expect or demand to be paid for information just yet. You’re still trying to build your reputation and nobody knows you. Focus on putting out excellent quality entries or posts in
your blog. Good content, coupled with enough promotional activity, will put you in the blog
universe’s map. The way to do it is to write articles about your specific topic, articles that are related to your chosen content. Include a short introduction about yourself and your blog and place a link back to your site.

Writing articles helps establish your reputation as a reliable source of information and makes you recognizable. Take article writing a bit further and send it out to article databases or social bookmarking sites where it can generate more buzz and get free promotion. Social
bookmarking sites allow visitors to vote for your article, so the more it gains in popularity, the more exposure your blog will receive.

Target Online Forums are today’s bulletin boards, the equivalent of the office water cooler. These are sites or pages on the internet that people frequent to ask or answer questions, share
their opinions, tell a story, rant, rave or just simply say something.

Seek out online forums where topics related to your blog are found. Forums offer free advertising opportunities for your blog and let you network at the same time.

Advertising Your Blog on Other Websites for Free !!!

There are several ways you can advertise your blog on other websites without paying a single cent. The trick is to find these channels and determine which ones will work for you.

Here just a few techniques you can use:

Advertise on other blogs.

You could build a reciprocal relationship with other bloggers, particularly those whose content are related (but not necessarily similar) to yours. If your blog is about mortgage and
financial news, for example, you could advertise it for free on another blog that offers mortgage reviews.

By becoming partners with a non-competitor, you take advantage of his market for the right type of exposure without alienating anyone. It’s fair, it works and it’s for free.

Use social media. (Social Networks)

Social media revolutionized many aspects of the Internet, particularly because it presents a new way of communicating and sharing information. It broke many barriers, allowing people
from across the globe to build and join networks, both for personal and business purposes.

Social media are sites that can be used to advertise your blogs for free. Nearly all types of businesses that exist on the Internet use social media for promotional activities. The demographics here are clearly defined, people can communicate in a more personal manner and since social media is an accepted platform for marketing, people who read your ads
regarding your blog are more likely to be receptive to it. Best of all, advertising your blog on these websites is free.

Use a network.

To build buzz and gain momentum in the blog universe, you need support from likeminded
individuals. Bloggers don’t really advertise themselves actively against other bloggers. Instead, they compete with one another by ensuring they have better content and easier to use sites.

Although simply maintaining a good blog will help attract other blogs wishing to link up with you, you might also want to actively pursue associations with other popular blogs. Many of the best bloggers around are generous enough to give you a bit of support and will gladly mention your blog in one of their posts.

Best of all, a network helps you increase your reach for the same amount of effort.

Use article databases.

Article databases are repositories of write-ups that bloggers and site owners use. If you choose this route, know that this is a rather indirect way of promoting your blog. It is quite effective nonetheless, particularly if you want to build buzz regarding your ability to provide useful
information. Try to search out a specific topic online and chances are, you will find an article written by blogger in an article database. Read this article. At the end, you will notice that the blogger had included his/her name, a short description of himself, what he does, the name of his company and a link back to his site.

Sometimes, a blogger might even include a few links to some of his write-ups within the text of the article. This is to entice the reader to click on the link and find related information on the writer’s blog. Using links in this manner allows you to advertise your blog for free on a separate website.

There’s no cost involved here, particularly if you wrote the article and performed the submission yourself. If you prefer to spend a little bit, you could also use copywriting and submission services for a reasonable cost. While this isn’t free advertising for your blog, you still get to expand your presence using another website.
